"Strange Bird" was the first original song The Grip Weeds played during their beginnings on the New Brunswick, NJ club scene back in the late ‘80’s. The group first recorded it in the ‘90s, and became their debut single release on Twang! Records in Germany in 1993. It went out of print for decades, and was cut a second time for their sophomore album, The Sound Is In You (Ground Up Records). Following the pandemic, “Strange Bird” was brought back into their live show, which inspired them to take another crack at recording it. “We were surprised by how fresh and vital the song sounded live with the current lineup, which led us to revisit it in the studio,” singer/ drummer Kurt Reil said. Also recorded during these sessions is a new version of "She Brings The Rain," which was the A-side of the debut German single. The original was cut in NYC in the early 90's, and a second version was recorded for the Wicked Cool best-of release Infinite Soul. Three times a charm– these are the definitive recordings of their earliest songs!
