When it comes to the Grip Weeds - a band who has taken many stylistic turns over the years - their new Early Clues EP provides nine minutes of evidence that points to a killer new album.
Soul Bender is the name of the full-length LP of all original songs slated for release later in 2025 on JEM Records. The three tracks chosen for the Early Clues EP teaser are varied, yet they rock as hard as anything in the Grip Weeds’ storied discography.
"Conquer And Divide" pulls the vintage stomp of the band's DiG record into the modern era, applying classic muscle to the modern nuisances that multiply by the hour. Think of it as tough love from the Dali Llama.
An anthem for all of the musicians/writers/artists in the crowd, "Column Of Air" touches on the almost insurmountable odds and the occasional victories that come with being a creative. With great freedom comes great peril.
"Flowers For Cynthia" is a baroque pop confection (co-written by David Wojciechowski of the Insomniacs) about the trevails of a one-sided relationship, the song turns the tried and tired love song cliches into a psychedelic noir.
One needn't be a forensics genius to hear that the Grip Weeds have a monster of an album cooking with the impending Soul Bender.
Oh, there's just one more thing: play this EP loud!
